Workshops for Teachers

Our Workshops for Yoga Teachers delve into specific topics to enhance your teaching skills and personal practice. Each unique workshop is designed to expand your knowledge through yoga practice, meditation, reflection and discussion.  Topics include functional anatomy, hands on assisting, pre and post natal, philosophy, anxiety and sanskrit. Many workshops are eligible for CEUs.

Introduction to the Yamas and Niyamas

In this workshop, we will review the Yamas and Niyamas as they are outlined in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and then reflect on them using various translations, including a commentary from a women’s, heart-centred perspective. We will discuss how the Yamas and Niyamas continue to be vibrant and engaging in our current times, and how they apply to our teaching and our lives.

Freeing the Voice

The voice is in good health when it is flexible, dynamic, present and precise. Gerry’s enjoyable non-threatening approach introduces a practice that frees the voice, uniting it with the physical body.  This work highlights the individual’s distinctive and authentic voice and aligns the body in the process. With practice, participants discover a new power in their physical and vocal presence, and new ability to move and speak with confidence.

Yoga for Anxiety and Depression

Spend a weekend exploring how asana, pranayama and meditation practices support the physical body, the nervous and respiratory systems, and the mind in returning to homeostasis. For yoga and meditation teachers, teachers in training and anyone studying and/or working in the mental health arena. CEU’s awarded through Yoga Alliance.

Yoga for Healthy Joints…NEW!

Learn yoga postures to enhance ease, comfort and fluid movement through all joints of the body, especially those which are stiff and sore. We will concentrate on mobilizing joints where osteoarthritis tends to develop – hips, lower back, knees, fingers and wrists. We will discuss why movement is essential for both healthy and arthritic joints from medical and yoga perspectives. For students of all ages and at any level of practice.

Awakening the Spine

Spend a weekend exploring all aspects of the spine – its anatomy, connection to the breath, energy, movement and texture and the imagery that has traditionally supported it. To tease out our previous knowledge of the spine and assimilate new ideas, we’ll use lecture, asana practice, discussion, partner work, breathing practice, relaxation techniques and meditation.

Exploring the Psoas

The psoas muscle is powerful and intelligent.  It lies deep in the torso connecting spine, pelvis and legs.  Understanding how to release, stretch and strengthen the psoas can help us to integrate and stabilize the entire physical body and free the respiratory system.  We will explore postures and breathing practices to deepen our awareness and understanding of the role of the psoas.

Chronic Pain Management with Yoga

An interactive workshop for students living with chronic pain, and yoga teachers who would like to guide their students toward management and recovery. We will explore gentle yoga postures and breathing exercises to relieve pain, improve mobility, reduce anxiety, lift mood and rediscover the joy of movement.

Introducing Pranayama

We will practise breath awareness and several traditional and non-traditional breathing exercises (pranayama). Then we’ll assess, deconstruct and discuss how and when to introduce pranayama to beginners (and ourselves) most effectively.

Spend 2 days exploring the art of teaching yoga to beginners. Learn the principles behind adapting postures and breathing practices, the importance of variety and flexibility in language and description, and how to use the integrated principles of grounding, breathing and releasing the spine in order to guide beginning students toward reflective and independent practice.
