Workshops for Teachers

Our Workshops for Yoga Teachers delve into specific topics to enhance your teaching skills and personal practice. Each unique workshop is designed to expand your knowledge through yoga practice, meditation, reflection and discussion.  Topics include functional anatomy, hands on assisting, pre and post natal, philosophy, anxiety and sanskrit. Many workshops are eligible for CEUs.

We offer a uniquely organic approach to yoga practice and teaching. Our programme combines asana, pranayama and meditation with lecture, discussion, and practicum to create a balanced outlook that will enliven all aspects of your teaching and your approach to the body/mind. You are supported, encouraged, and empowered to question and explore, to find your own path and voice.

Freeing the Voice

Awakening the Spine

Spend a weekend exploring all aspects of the spine – its anatomy, connection to the breath, energy, movement and texture and the imagery that has traditionally supported it. To tease out our previous knowledge of the spine and assimilate new ideas, we’ll use lecture, asana practice, discussion, partner work, breathing practice, relaxation techniques and meditation.

CPR Level B AED

12:30pm-4:30pm, $85 (+$15 cash for the Rescue 7 manual)

This workshop will teach you how best to respond to a life threatening situation. You will learn how to provide accurate and effective cardio pulmonary resuscitation, and how best to assist a choking victim. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive CPR LEVEL B certification. This training is for those receiving their first CPR certification and for those renewing. In order to receive certification, participants must attend the full session, successfully demonstrate all required skills and purchase a new Manual for $15 (reflecting newly adopted guidelines).

* A CPR certificate is strongly recommended for all yoga teachers and should be renewed yearly.

Yoga and Osteoporosis

Osteopenia and osteoporosis are conditions in which – during the natural process of aging – bones tend to become more porous and susceptible to fracture. Exciting new research shows that yoga is a very effective tool for preventing and managing these conditions. Participants will be guided through practices that encourage grounding and weight bearing, as well as exercises and poses that facilitate balance, stability, range of movement and awareness. Written handouts, summarizing relevant science, will be provided.

Spend 2 days exploring the art of teaching yoga to beginners. Learn the principles behind adapting postures and breathing practices, the importance of variety and flexibility in language and description, and how to use the integrated principles of grounding, breathing and releasing the spine in order to guide beginning students toward reflective and independent practice.

Yoga for Insomnia

Explore asana and pranayama techniques that can assist you with the challenges of insomnia. We will incorporate practices that enhance relaxation for body and mind, and can be done in preparation for or return to sleep. There will be time to discuss and record the practices. This workshop is appropriate for students and teachers at all levels.

As teachers, we use hands-on assists to work directly with the principles of grounding and elongation supporting students to move freely and with confidence in advanced postures. During this workshop we will explore variations and options for safe and productive hands-on assists, work in partners or small groups and discuss our experiences. Yoga teachers and teacher trainees at all levels are welcome.

Empowering the Aging Body

As the population ages, teachers must inform themselves about natural changes in the body as well as common conditions such as osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and lower back pain. Changes in outlook also occur in older students as they contemplate their lives and goals. Through practice, discussion and analysis, we will explore these and other issues of aging and create intelligent and supportive options in order to instruct older students holistically with energy, knowledge and empathy.

Empowering the Aging Body is intended for certified and non-certified yoga and meditation teachers, teachers-in-training, health professionals, therapists, social workers and interested students of yoga. CEU’s awarded through Yoga Alliance.
