THE FUNCTION OF THE SPINE
Evolution hones survival. A species that survives millennia will have refined its functioning to suit its environment as perfectly as possible. The human being is no exception. Recently a researcher called Serge Gracovetsky based at Concordia University in Montreal, developed the theory of Spinal Engine, arguing eloquently that the spine evolved as the primary locomotor system for our ancestors and still is today. This session will explore his ideas and the relevance of his work to yoga teachers.
Friday February 3 12:30pm - 3:00pm

THE BUSINESS OF YOGA

SHARING YOGA WITH PEOPLE IN PAIN
Yoga is considered one of the most effective modalities for change and provides complementary healing for people living with chronic stress and pain.
In this workshop, we will explore key issues and major considerations regarding pain and yoga teaching through lecture, experiential learning and discussion.
People living with chronic pain face multiple challenges in life. Very often these challenges pervade everyday experiences and activities. It takes courage and readiness from within, and a supportive and non-competitive environment for them to explore movement potential in their bodies, and to move forward in life.
Friday March 23 12:30pm - 3:00pm Linus Ip $43
INTRODUCING KUNDALINI YOGA PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE
Kundalini yoga engages us on an energetic level through rhythmic movements of the spine, breathing, and sound. We will practise Kundalini yoga sets and meditations and use these as a starting point for a discussion of the teaching philosophy implicit in Kundalini yoga.  Learn how to incorporate Kundalini yoga movements and ideas into hatha yoga classes as well as into your home practice.
Friday April 13 12:30pm - 3:00pm Paola di Paolo $43
DECONSTRUCTING BACKBENDS
Backbending is an organic, energizing and enlivening experience. As teachers we can learn how to work with the neurological movements of the spine, and the respiratory system, enabling us to clarify the principles underlying backbends and allowing us to make safe and appropriate adaptations for individual students.
