La Rosa dei 4 Venti (The Rose of the 4 Winds) is located in the countryside between Martina Franca, Cisternino and Ostuni, in the Puglia district of southern Italy. It is accessible by plane or train from Rome or Naples, and is 40 minutes by car from Brindisi and one hour from Bari.
The main building at La Rosa dei 4 Venti is a lovingly restored masseria (typical Puglian farmhouse) surrounded by nature in magical countryside. The farmhouse is nestled on a hillside with a panoramic view of the Itria Valley, on 15 hectares of land full of hundred-year-old oak, olive and fruit trees, lavender, rose gardens, pure air, and sunshine.
The guest rooms are detached trullies (traditional Puglian dwellings with cone shaped roofs), restored using original stone from the valley. They are spacious and breezy.
There is both an indoor wood-floor Yoga practice hall converted from a stable and an outdoor platform which has a spectacular view of the valley. Guests can relax by the pool situated among the trees or stroll in a private forest. Bicycles are available for exploring the surrounding countryside. The beautiful Puglian sea offers glorious beaches for relaxation and regeneration.
The kitchen serves homestyle Puglian vegetarian food featuring locally sourced vegetables and fresh fruits, olive oil, cheese and wine made following ancient and healthy traditions.
Please visit www.larosadei4venti.org for information and photos of this unusual retreat destination in a culturally unique and little known area of Italy.
Excursions can be arranged through the retreat centre to the stunning white hillside town of Ostuni, to Lecce with its romanesque architecture and to the Unesco World Heritage site of Matera, a town with Paleolithic origins cut out of a rock ravine with churches and houses still intact. Combining this yoga retreat with a longer stay in Italy will make for an exciting and culturally enriching holiday.
